Abstract

This research is motivated by the condition sebahagian students are not motivated when learning process takes place. They look weak, lethargic, sleepy, lazy record material and chatting with friends when the teacher explains the lesson. Learning to use strategies Crossword Puzzle able to grow and increase the motivation of fifth grade students to learn in social studies. This research is a classroom action research (CAR) conducted in two cycles. The subjects were fifth grade students of SD Negeri 03 Alai totaling 30 people consisting of 14 men - men and 16 women. The technique of collecting data using questionnaires, observation and documentation sheet. Data analysis technique used in this research was the object of observation is the percentage of the student activities and student motivation during the learning process takes place on the second cycle of the study. The results showed that the use of strategies Crossword Puzzle can increase students' motivation. This is evidenced by the percentage increase student learning activities in the first cycle is 72% to 87.5% in the second cycle. In addition, the percentage of students' motivation has also increased, namely 69% in the first cycle and 79.5% in the second cycle. Based on these results we can conclude Crossword Puzzle use can increase the activity and motivation of students in the subjects of Social Studies (IPS).
